Position Overview

Under limited supervision, performs Waste Management job functions as assigned by management. Typical job responsibilities include assisting and supporting management in ensuring that the site Waste Management function operates in a manner that is safe, cost effective and fully compliant with FBP procedures and all regulatory requirements. The specific work assignment may include duties or activities that assist and support management in one or more of the following functional areas, in addition to other duties as assigned:

  • Mastery in the requirements of assigned job duties supporting Waste Management functional areas such as waste characterization, waste stream certification, waste disposition planning, nuclear materials transfer, transportation and/or other related areas
  • Must have a strong background working with vendors in the Waste Management field, helping to develop contract requirements, writing requisitions and statements of work, forecasting and tracking waste volumes per waste stream and TSDFs.
  • Tracks, verifies and communicates accruals through project controls, approves invoices for waste shipments and receives/maintains certificates of disposal.
  • Must be able to develop/prepare waste stream justifications and NNSS exemptions for disposal and compose annual DOE Order 435. 1 exemptions.
  • Develops waste characterization narratives for waste stream profiling, treatment type and disposition using historical information, generating processes, known or suspected contaminants and data quality.
  • Makes significant contributions to the development, implementation and maintenance of environmental waste management programs and procedures
  • Conducts investigations and prepares reports to project management
  • Ensures environmental waste management activities are in compliance with applicable laws, regulations and project policies
  • Provides technical expertise to other function across the organization
  • May serve as team lead on medium to large projects
  • Provides technical and/or functional support to the Waste Management team
  • Performs duties complex in nature
  • Assignments are sometimes self-intiated
  • Maintains knowledge of and demonstrates ability to perform work safely in accordance with all approved safety policies, procedures and applicable regulations and performs assigned duties in a safe manner
  • Actively participates in Safety Work Groups
  • Other job related duties as assigned

Working Conditions

Primary work environment will be office. Limited work may be required in an environmental restoration atmosphere (outdated and/or abandoned facilities). Potential exposure to equipment movement hazards, dangerous chemicals/solvents or hazardous and radioactive materials if proper safety procedures are not followed.

Ability to wear respirator and other protective equipment to enter various types of potentially hazardous areas (such as but not limited to chemical, dust fumes, mists, heat stress factors, etc.).

Potential for prolonged driving of or riding in a motor vehicle, machine operation, and/or working around moving equipment/machinery or motorized vehicles (such as but not limited to car, truck, golf cart, gator, heavy equipment).

Ability to work in confined areas, tanks, heat stress conditions, high noise and areas with radiation and chemical hazards.

Environmental conditions may include weather or temperature extremes, inclement weather (such as but not limited to wind, rain, excessive heat, excessive cold, snow/ice, etc.)

In some cases radiological training may be required.

May be required to operate company vehicle during the course of work. All safety and DOT regulations and procedures must be adhered to at all times.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
